Fondant Quantities Guide

How much fondant icing do I need to cover a cake?

This is a question we are often asked at Cake & Kitchen. We’ve put together a rough guide to the amount of fondant required. If you are new to cake decorating or covering cakes then always go for a little more the recommended amount to allow for mishaps. The quantities recommended are based on the fondant being rolled out to approx thickness of 5-6mm.

Tips for using fondant:
• Knead the fondant until soft and pliable
• Use a little cornflour, rather than icing sugar, to prevent sticking as you are kneading and rolling
• To help you roll out your icing evenly, you can use “spacers” – see our range of rolling pins and mats
• At Cake & Kitchen we stock ready coloured fondant, or you can choose to colour your own from our large range of icing colour gels.
